Fatimah Williams Castro

Research Assistant

Fatimah Williams Castro researches black activism in Colombia, South America to determine how blackness and black rights are defined in a self-proclaimed racially democratic nation.  Using event observation, interview, and archival research from 2007-8, Williams Castro investigated how members of the Afro-Colombian social movement develop and influence public policies and legislation that address racism, racial discrimination, and other disparities experienced along ethno-racial lines.  She is currently in her sixth year of the doctorate program in Anthropology.
