Fatimah Williams Castro
Research Assistant
Fatimah Williams Castro researches black
activism in Colombia, South America to determine how blackness and
black rights are defined in a self-proclaimed racially democratic
nation. Using event observation, interview, and archival research
from 2007-8, Williams Castro investigated how members of the
Afro-Colombian social movement develop and influence public policies
and legislation that address racism, racial discrimination, and other
disparities experienced along ethno-racial lines. She is
currently in her sixth year of the doctorate program in
Anthropology.
